the so called sequester that would hit the pentagon. on "fox news sunday" senator lindsey graham told chris wallace he got a call from the defense secretary suggesting these cuts are coming. lake a listen. >> i was called by leon panetta at 7:30 during dinner. >> secretary of defense. >> this is the failure of the supercommittee to find $1.2 trillion in cuts. half of the 1.2 falls on defense who already cut. he says if we do this we will shoot the defense department in the head and send out 800,000 layoff notices the beginning of the year. he is worried to death if we don't fix sequestration we will destroy the biggest military in the world at the time we need it most. >> impact potentially on the national defense. also on the markets. the president noting in the "meet the press" interviews. the markets going down on the fears there will not be a debt deal. watch out for the markets this coming week. >> they went down 158 points and see what happens on monday. certainly they will be going all night. we will get back to you once we have the latest on what if anything they can agree on.

lindsey graham stands up and votes against this. he's somewhat a respected member of the senate. >> nothing shocks me any more. the republican party has been moving away from disability for some time. when you look at other things that the congress has focused on medicaid, healthcare, the affordable care act even looking at what's going on with the fiscal cliff right? are we going to balance our budget by lessoning lessening the support to those with disability or focus on those at the top 1%. this trend is ongoing and i hope it doesn't continue. the bipartisan tradition around disability is longstanding, and i think it's mourn. it's one of those few issues that traditionally both republicans and democrats can agree on, and i hope we can get back to that point. a lot of work need to be done in the republican party for us to get there. >> eliot: your point is so well taken. there should be no disagreement about extending rights to those with disabilities. this is not a partisan issue. it has not been historically a partisan issue. whom will you call? where will you begin when you

lindsey graham is up for re-election. we don't know for sure if he's going to run, but conservatives have been challenging him in pry mother for a long time. they don't view him as conservative enough. which jim was a very conservative senator all in favor of conservative primaries getting the more moderate republicans. this is going to be two very interesting, very competitive races in a state that's not necessarily very competitive in the national landscape. >> ifill: who wants their job, who wants lindsey graham's job and who wants tim scott's job? >> now that tim scott is appointed, it's obviously very early to tell but i don't think he'll get as much as primary challeng he's very -- pretty well regarded among conservatives in the state. lindsey graham, there were several people maybe someone in the sell gibbs, a state senator perhaps who might challenge him in the primary. still up in the air, but i'd be very surprised if he didn't get a challenge of some sort in the primary next year. >> ifill: in general, do these kinds of races, are these watched closely for fundraising purpo
